Captain's Charity Pro-Am
Friday 16th July 2010
Twenty six teams took part in the annual Captain's Day Pro-Am in very blustery conditions at South Staffs with a shotgun start at 12.00noon. There were some excellent scores by both the professionals and amateur teams.
South Staffs head professional Peter Baker shot a new course record 63, all the more impressive considering that there were two new tees used for the first time in competition. Both the 3rd and 4th holes had been lengthened. There were other excellent scores from Matt Morris of Walmley Golf Club and Daniel Greenwood of Forest Pines who both shot 65's, and also from Paul Wesselingh of Kedleston Park Golf Club and Ian Walley of Shirland Golf Club who both shot 68’s.

PTS Invitational 2nd - 4th June 2010
MORRIS DOUBLES UP AT PTS INVITATIONAL
With a fine 66, the lowest round of the final day, Walmley Golf Club’s director of Golf, Matthew Morris, secured his second title in successive weeks with victory at the PTS Invitational.
Played at the beautiful South Staffordshire Golf club and supported by UK leading plumbing merchants PTS, the second PGA Midland Region Order of Merit event of the season was played over three delightfully sunny days from the 2nd -4th June.
A shot back from the overnight leaders Ian Lyner (The Leicestershire Golf Club) and John Banbury (Moor Hall) going into the final round, Morris shook off a recent back injury and kept his nerve in front of the Sky television cameras to record a five under par final round, which included six birdies and just one bogey.
Things could have been different with both Morris and Kibworth Professional Matthew Cort stood on the 18th tee and final hole of the tournament sharing the lead. However, with Cort making bogey, Morris’ par up the last was enough to secure the win with a ten under par total of 203.
First round leader Maywood GC’s Mark Smith bookended his tournament with a second 66, giving him a share of third place on eight under par along with Mark Butler (Rowley Regis) and James Whatley (East Midlands Golf Academy).
Backed by PTS, Morris claimed the 2010 Invitational Crown and with it the winners cheque of £2,500 moving him further ahead in the Midland Order of Merit.
With near perfect conditions all week, the Sky’s cameras were on-hand again to capture the
action of one the key events on the PGA Midland Region Calendar. With points counting towards the end of season Srixon PGA Play-Offs, which sees the top three finishers from the region win the chance to compete for a handful of European Tour starts, the result puts Morris in a prime position to get the tour starts he’s targeted next season.
