Caterers with Royal connections

When Neven Vukasovic left Croatia thirty one years ago little did he think that one day he would be serving food to the future king of England. Neven had been born into catering, his father being the owner of a number of restaurants and on arriving in England he ran the restaurant at the Strathallan Hotel in Birmingham. He would subsequently move to an Italian Restaurant in the Merry Hill Centre and it was here that he met and married Angela. Whilst there, they also decided to work together. A spell as stewards at Halesowen Golf Club followed, after which the two of them took up residence at the Fox & Hounds, a gastro pub in Shawbury, Shropshire. Shawbury is also an RAF base for future helicopter pilots and it was here that Prince William did his training. The Fox & Hounds became William’s local where he would regularly sample Angela and Neven’s food. “We got to know him very well” says Neven. “He was a lovely man, very down to earth with no side whatsoever and we were just a little surprised not to get an invitation to his wedding!!”

From the Fox & Hounds our royal caterers moved to Burnley Golf Club where they had three very enjoyable years and it was only when Angela had their first child (daughter Jana) that they felt it would be good to move back to the West Midlands where her family are based. After a brief spell at Handsworth Golf Club they joined South Staffs and in the short time since arriving they have impressed all those who have sampled their fayre.

“We have been made to feel really welcome” says Angela “and we have lots of plans for the future. In the coming weeks there will be a new bar menu and as a keen baker I will be introducing afternoon teas. We have started bi-monthly Sunday lunches and are hoping that this might develop into a weekly event. We are also going to take members on a tour of world cuisine with plans for themed events based on the food of amongst others Italy, Bulgaria, Austria, Turkey, Greece, Thailand and China. We feel very settled in this lovely part of Wolverhampton and see our future here”.
